Precalculus covers functions, analytic geometry and trigonometry at the level needed to begin calculus. It is the natural step between College Algebra and Calculus.

The exam covers algebraic expressions and equations, the concept and properties of functions, symbolic and graphical representations, analytic geometry, trigonometry and modelling.
Trigonometry carries real weight, including identities, equations and applications, and is where unprepared students most often lose points.
Questions frequently move between symbolic, graphical and tabular representations of the same function, so fluency across all three matters.

How to study for this exam
- Make the unit circle automatic; almost every trigonometry question is faster with it.
- Practise moving between a function's formula, graph and table until the translation is instant.
- Review exponential and logarithmic functions, including solving equations in both forms.
- Work modelling problems, where you build a function from a described situation.

Common questions
Should I take this before Calculus?
If your trigonometry is weak, yes. It is the most common gap among students who struggle with the calculus exam.
How much overlap is there with College Algebra?
Some, in functions and equations, but Precalculus adds trigonometry and analytic geometry.
